Sarah Grassel: Service

Hi everyone! My name is Sarah Grassel and I’m a Biology major with a Spanish minor. I’m from Corvallis, Oregon, and have lived my whole life in the Pacific Northwest. Because of this, I’ve developed a love of the outdoors, especially of hiking, biking, and paddle boarding (and also coffee of course). I love to go on walks, especially on the beach, and like to read, bake, play piano, swim, and spend time with friends and family. At Gonzaga, I’m involved in campus ministry and work as a tutor in math and chemistry, and, of course, I am a Seton. Coming to Gonzaga, I knew I wanted to find a community that valued service and connection. Service has always been an important part of my life. Through volunteering, I’ve gotten to meet so many people from different walks of life while working on various projects. I believe serving others is essential to living a flourishing life. It’s an act of love and humility, recognizing the gifts one has received and working for and with others in gratitude...

Lauren O'Grady - Leadership

Hey! My name is Lauren O'Grady. I am a Psychology and Spanish major with a minor in Leadership Studies. I'm from Danville, California which is about 30 minutes away from San Francisco. In my free time, I love to play guitar, go on runs, spend time with my family and friends, and listen to Harry Styles. Being a Seton has been such a great experience and I'm excited to share part of what made my time so memorable.
Setons as an organization has such strong core values, and the value I want to share about is leadership. I love the sisterhood and service aspects as well, but I feel that without leadership, the service and sisterhood components wouldn't be as strong. For example, we all had to use leadership skills such as initiative and charisma to grow in our relationships with our sisters. We also had to use leadership skills such as integrity and determination in order to serve. In terms of my official leadership role, I had the opportunity to serve as a Co-Welcome Day Chair, which was such a fun position! I got to plan the entire day with my sister Elly, meet all the new girls, and help them get excited for their upcoming year. Welcome Day is a sisterhood-focused day, and I feel our leadership skills helped make it as successful as possible. I am so thankful to have been a Seton and I can't wait to see what the new class accomplishes next year. ATTS forever!
