Eleanor Johnson: Service

Hi! My name is Eleanor Johnson, and I am from Snohomish, Washington. I am majoring in Accounting and Business Administration with a concentration in Management Information Systems and have a minor in dance. Outside of class I work with Campus Kitchens, a program on campus that takes leftover food from campus dining to cook warm meals that are then served to Gonzaga Family Haven and O’Malley Senior Center. Along with Setons I am apart of Women in Business, Beta Alpha Psi, and the involved in the Gonzaga dance program. In my free time I like to read, get coffee, take workout classes, and watch Gilmore Girls.   I joined Girl Scouts in first grade and ever since, Service has been extremely important to me and something I strive to keep a part of my life. Growing up in Girl Scouts allowed me to recognize the importance of helping those in my community from an early age and has ultimately led me to be the person I am today. Clare Kennedy - Service

Hi! My name is Clare Kennedy and I’m from Portland, Oregon. I’m a Psychology major with a General Business minor and I am so happy to be a part of Setons and have had so much fun being active this semester! I’m a huge dog lover, enjoy painting and love getting involved in the Spokane community.
I have had an incredible time at my service placement, Blessings Under the Bridge. Every Tuesday, Libby, Ashley, and I make meals to be distributed at a Wednesday night feed for people experiencing food insecurity in Spokane, including the homeless population. Normally we make sandwiches, but this week we made shepherd’s pie and green pudding for a St. Patrick’s Day-themed feast. Although we have not been able to directly interact with the community we are serving, volunteering at Blessing has helped me grow closer to my sisters and learn more about all the great work that the organization does. On our first day of serving, we were given a tour of the property and were able to see the behind-the-scenes aspect of Blessings, where there are mass donations of food, clothing, furniture, and other goods people are in need of. It was inspiring to see how Blessings seeks to meet the needs of the community while treating all their friends that they serve with dignity and love. I can’t wait to continue to serve!
