Yuna Jang: Sisterhood

Hello! My name is Yuna and I am from Sacramento, California. A bit about my home life, I have a sister who currently attends Baylor University on track to become a doctor and I am currently studying nursing. My parents own their own sushi restaurant so I can confidently say sushi is my favorite food (and I know good sushi). Other than Setons, I am also involved in the Gonzaga Student Nurses Association here on campus as well as when I’m at home from school, I work at my local gym’s kid’s club because I love working with kids! Although nursing is pretty rigorous academically, in my spare time I live with 3 other roommates and we love to cook, watch movies, go on walks, and shop!  I chose the Seton pillar of sisterhood. This pillar is truly what drew me to Setons in the first place. As a 2nd semester freshman girl, I felt like I had met a lot of people but didn’t truly connect with any to call them a close friend. However, once I joined Setons, I got to truly and deeply connect with ...

Lily Whiton - Sisterhood

Hey there! My name is Lily Whiton and I’m from Boulder, Colorado. I am currently working towards my degree with a major in Psychology and a minor in Health Equity! After college, I hope to get my MA in counseling. I am very passionate about what I am studying and cannot wait to build my career around helping others. Some things that I love are my two dogs (Frankie and Bode), hiking, skiing, spending time with my family/friends, playing card games, Trader Joe’s, painting with watercolors, crocheting, watching Dancing with the Stars every Tuesday night with my roommates, and being a part of Setons. I am one of the Social Chairs of Setons (alongside the wonderful Ms. Emmy) and have absolutely loved my time being a part of this club.

I decided to write about sisterhood because this is the pillar that embodies the unique community of Setons. As a psychology major, I have been made aware of the innate and instinctual need for human beings to connect with each other. While we can survive alone, we thrive in communities. As a natural introvert, I was very anxious coming into Setons, worried I would not be able to connect with the girls. However, it did not take long for me to realize that this fear was far removed from reality. All of the Setons connected quickly and deeply, and now I have 30 new best friends. The community that is Setons is unlike one I have been a part of before. I love seeing my sisters on the way to class, in the COG, waiting for my Starbucks, and so many places all over campus. Being a part of this club has made Gonzaga feel more like home, and I will forever cherish the friendships that Setons has brought me.
