Yuna Jang: Sisterhood

Hello! My name is Yuna and I am from Sacramento, California. A bit about my home life, I have a sister who currently attends Baylor University on track to become a doctor and I am currently studying nursing. My parents own their own sushi restaurant so I can confidently say sushi is my favorite food (and I know good sushi). Other than Setons, I am also involved in the Gonzaga Student Nurses Association here on campus as well as when I’m at home from school, I work at my local gym’s kid’s club because I love working with kids! Although nursing is pretty rigorous academically, in my spare time I live with 3 other roommates and we love to cook, watch movies, go on walks, and shop!  I chose the Seton pillar of sisterhood. This pillar is truly what drew me to Setons in the first place. As a 2nd semester freshman girl, I felt like I had met a lot of people but didn’t truly connect with any to call them a close friend. However, once I joined Setons, I got to truly and deeply connect with ...

Sam Hidalgo- Sisterhood

Hello! My name is Samantha Hidalgo (I go by Sam!), and I am SO excited to be a Seton. I am a nursing major with a Spanish minor, and I’m from Los Angeles, California. In my free time, I love to read and journal, or even take walks down Centennial Trail to Downtown. Outside of Setons, I am involved in GSNA (Gonzaga Student Nurses Association). Since the entirety of my first year of college was online, I am so thankful for the Setons, since they have not only given me the opportunity to get to know the Spokane community a little better, but the club has also allowed me to make 29 new friends, who I am SO grateful for everyday!

Sisterhood is the pillar that holds the most significance to me. I attended an all-girls school for high school, and I developed a strong relationship with many girls and truly felt an immense boost in my confidence during my high school experience. Now that I’m back in a co-ed environment, I didn’t want to lose that sense of sisterhood in my everyday life, which is why the Setons stood out to me so much! This class of Setons has bonded together so quickly in such a short amount of time, and it brings me so much joy every time we all get together for our monthly service or social events. I love going on sister dates with each person, since it gives me time to really get to know each of my Seton sisters. A strong aspect of sisterhood that I’ve recognized from this first semester of being a Seton is through our weekly meetings. While we’re all waiting for the meeting to start, you can find girls turning to their sisters and checking in with one another to see how they’ve been doing throughout the week; we lift each other up if someone shares that they’ve had a rough week and we provide words of encouragement. During the meeting, we’re given the chance to give a Sister Shoutout to another sister, which spreads even more love and encouragement, and it truly reflects this sisterhood. This semester has reminded me that Setons is not just a service club, but a whole group of girls that I can lean on for support—my sisters!
