Eleanor Johnson: Service

Hi! My name is Eleanor Johnson, and I am from Snohomish, Washington. I am majoring in Accounting and Business Administration with a concentration in Management Information Systems and have a minor in dance. Outside of class I work with Campus Kitchens, a program on campus that takes leftover food from campus dining to cook warm meals that are then served to Gonzaga Family Haven and O’Malley Senior Center. Along with Setons I am apart of Women in Business, Beta Alpha Psi, and the involved in the Gonzaga dance program. In my free time I like to read, get coffee, take workout classes, and watch Gilmore Girls.   I joined Girl Scouts in first grade and ever since, Service has been extremely important to me and something I strive to keep a part of my life. Growing up in Girl Scouts allowed me to recognize the importance of helping those in my community from an early age and has ultimately led me to be the person I am today. Service was the pillar that drove me to join Setons, and I’m so ...

Sara Weaver - Service

Hello, my name is Sara Weaver! I am an Environmental Science major with a music minor, born and raised in Littleton, Colorado. Most of my free time is spent running, doing yoga, lifting, hiking, and singing/songwriting. On campus, I am a part of Concert Choir, the A Capella group Big Bing Theory, and Fossil Free Gonzaga! I feel so lucky to have such amazing communities here at GU, and I cannot wait for all this Spring semester has to offer. This past December I did my first-ever music release, Snowfall, collaborating with a fellow Zag, and I’m excited to keep writing and creating with more Gonzaga musicians. The Setons are a group of incredibly supportive women, always there to cheerlead each other on in our busy lives!
Setons has been an amazing part of my sophomore year, helping me meet other empowering women across majors, interests, and groups on campus. One of the main reasons I joined Setons, and the majority of my time spent with the organization has been during service. I had the opportunity to work with the Women and Children’s Free Restaurant as my service assignment for the Fall semester, and I’m very excited to be back at the restaurant volunteering this Spring. WCFR is a non-profit organization that provides free meals and groceries to families in Spokane. I spent last semester preparing food for grocery distribution, and this Spring will be helping during their weekly distribution of 150 cars worth of groceries. Sharing and hearing stories about how the Setons are getting involved in the community is extremely powerful each week. For me, service has been a way to give back to the greater Spokane community, while also helping me slow down in a busy life. WCFR helps to nourish thousands of individuals each week, and it is gratifying knowing that the act of volunteering which helps me to decompress and connect with Setons, also helps alleviate some of the pressures of hunger in the community. I feel so lucky for the magic that is Gonzaga- between my communities in Music, ENVS, and now this year, Setons. Through service, this organization has opened the door to connecting with the greater Spokane community, and also a group of incredible women bringing their light all across campus.
