Laila Zommers: Sisterhood

Hello! My name is Laila Zommers and I’m from Seattle, WA. I’m double majoring in Accounting and Business Administration (with a Finance concentration). I am the oldest of 3, and my younger sister (17) and younger brother (15) are my best friends! Joining Setons this year has truly been one of the best decisions I have EVER made. Outside of Setons, I am an active member in the Gonzaga Women in Business club. I love to cook, go on runs, hang out with friends, shop, and explore the Spokane coffee scene.                                            Out of our three pillars, I have resonated the most with Sisterhood as it’s the backbone of everything we do in Setons. Leadership and service could not thrive the same without it. Finding a group of like-minded women has been super beneficial in my college experience and my growth into the young woman I am today. Kira Wilson - Sisterhood

Hey guys, my name is Kira Wilson, I am from Spokane, Washington, and I am a nursing major with a sociology minor. I have a younger brother who is a junior in high school, and my entire family moved around a lot when I was a kid. I have lived in Seattle, Washington, South Bend, Indiana, and Spokane, Washington. My go-to fun fact is that I am a dual citizen in both the US and Canada. Something else about me is that I was a gymnast for 15 years, from the age of 3 all the way until I graduated high school, and now I coach at the gym I trained at during my senior year of high school. The main reason that I even applied to Setons was to grow my community and to serve others. Service has always been a big part of my life growing up doing service hours for catholic school, and it has become one of my favorite things to do in the community, but I have always loved getting to know new people and forming friendships with those around me and Setons has been the best place to do that.

I chose sisterhood as my pillar to talk about because it was one, if not the, reason that I first applied to Setons. I felt kinda lost in the friendships that I had during my freshman year and Setons felt like the perfect place to meet new girls from all different majors and backgrounds and foster friendships. Throughout my year as an active Seton I have really seen how welcoming and inclusive all of these girls have been. From getting to know each other on sister dates and during weekly service to just seeing each other across campus or in classes, I feel as though the sisterhood of Setons has really impacted me. The weekly service groups are one of the best ways I’ve seen Setons promote and prioritize sisterhood. We are able to drive to service every week together and help others in our community while getting closer with one other. One of the best things that Setons does to promote sisterhood is through the weekly sister dates. This is the time that we get to be one-on-one with each other whether or not we know each other very well. It’s the perfect time to really get to know the girls you’re getting to go through this year with and I have really felt my connection with each girl grow as the year goes on and as we have more opportunities to get to know each other on a deeper level.
