Eleanor Johnson: Service

Hi! My name is Eleanor Johnson, and I am from Snohomish, Washington. I am majoring in Accounting and Business Administration with a concentration in Management Information Systems and have a minor in dance. Outside of class I work with Campus Kitchens, a program on campus that takes leftover food from campus dining to cook warm meals that are then served to Gonzaga Family Haven and O’Malley Senior Center. Along with Setons I am apart of Women in Business, Beta Alpha Psi, and the involved in the Gonzaga dance program. In my free time I like to read, get coffee, take workout classes, and watch Gilmore Girls.   I joined Girl Scouts in first grade and ever since, Service has been extremely important to me and something I strive to keep a part of my life. Growing up in Girl Scouts allowed me to recognize the importance of helping those in my community from an early age and has ultimately led me to be the person I am today. Service was the pillar that drove me to join Setons, and I’m so ...

Emmy Duong: Sisterhood

Hi! My name is Emmy Duong and I’m from the beautiful Portland, Oregon. I’m majoring in psychology, minoring in dance, and am on track to get my elementary education certification. I’m hoping to become an elementary school teacher! My family consists of my mom, dad, sister (Katie), and cutie dog (Charlie). Outside of Setons, I love to participate in intramural sports and dance at Gonzaga. Before college, I did competitive dance! I also enjoy doing almost anything with my friends: going on drives, shopping, hiking, playing board games, etc. My current comfort movies are Soul Surfer and Anyone but You. Listening to music is one of my favorite things ever, especially Taylor Swift. Setons has been the best part of my sophomore year and I have made the loveliest friends because of Setons.

Being a member of Setons this year has taught me the power of sisterhood in so many ways. I have experienced sisterhood through each sister date I’ve been on, getting to spend intentional, individual time with my sisters. I have experienced sisterhood through the weekly meetings, showing up for each other each Wednesday at 9pm in college hall 325. Even when the meetings run long, they are still almost always my favorite part of the week. I have experienced sisterhood on the car rides to service, we are always singing, talking, or laughing. I have experienced sisterhood through meaningful service experiences shared with my sisters. I have experienced sisterhood through the monthly socials doing fun activities with my fun sisters, retreat especially comes to mind. I have experienced sisterhood through the web kindness, hearing each sister lift another sister up. I have experienced sisterhood through the hugs, waives, and smiles I’ve received when passing by my sisters around campus. To any of my sisters reading this, thank you for teaching me kindness, strength, and love through each of my interactions with you. I truly consider each of my sisters a dear friend, Setons are forever, Setons are the best!!!
