Mary Maidment: Service

Hi! My name is Mary Maidment and I am from Portland, Oregon. I am studying neuroscience with a minor in psychology on the pre-med track. On campus, I work as an events assistant and as an Ambassador, frequently giving tours. When I have free time, I love to be outside hiking, shopping, intramural sports, workout classes, and spending time with friends. This year, my team won our softball and volleyball intramural championships!! I have been busy watching the new Secret Lives of Mormon Wives season and just finished Scandal. What drew me to Setons was the Service pillar. Since I was young, my family has made an effort to be actively involved in different forms of service in our community. We spent time at our church, local food bank, community garden, and my favorite was making clothing bags for children in need. I loved picking outfits and giving toys, games, and other activities. Kaia Seno: Service

Hey! My name is Kaia Seno and I'm from Redmond, Washington. I’m majoring in environmental studies and minoring in psychology and sustainable business. I am the treasurer of setons and have been loving my role! Beyond academics, I'm actively involved in GEO at Gonzaga. In my free time, you'll often find me spending time with friends, exploring thrift stores, and binge watching TV shows and movies. I love spin classes, the gym, and of course, coffee is a must in my daily routine. In Setons I am grateful to be supported by a group of such genuine and uplifting people.

I have chosen the service pillar to reflect on. Service is something that has been deeply meaningful for me. I've been involved in community service since high school. I participated in weekly tutoring with Student Connection and volunteering at Food Lifeline. This past semester with Setons, my engagement with Hutton Settlement was particularly impactful. Spending time each week tutoring in my cottage and working on the farm allowed me to forge connections with the kids. The experience was not only rewarding but also allowed me to contribute positively to their lives. Another highlight of my time at Hutton was meeting and feeding the sheep and chicken they have on their property. Overall, the service pillar resonates with me as it provides a platform to make a tangible difference in the lives of others. It was amazing to be a part of such an important organization like Hutton and I hope to return someday!
