Mary Maidment: Service

Hi! My name is Mary Maidment and I am from Portland, Oregon. I am studying neuroscience with a minor in psychology on the pre-med track. On campus, I work as an events assistant and as an Ambassador, frequently giving tours. When I have free time, I love to be outside hiking, shopping, intramural sports, workout classes, and spending time with friends. This year, my team won our softball and volleyball intramural championships!! I have been busy watching the new Secret Lives of Mormon Wives season and just finished Scandal. What drew me to Setons was the Service pillar. Since I was young, my family has made an effort to be actively involved in different forms of service in our community. We spent time at our church, local food bank, community garden, and my favorite was making clothing bags for children in need. I loved picking outfits and giving toys, games, and other activities. Sam Heisen: Leadership

Hi! My name is Sam Heinsen, and I am from Portland, OR. I am majoring in Business with a Marketing concentration and a Digital Marketing minor. At Gonzaga, I also play on the club soccer team which has been super fun the past two years. Setons and club soccer have been such a great way to meet people these first years at college, and I’m forever grateful for both of them. In my free time, I love going skiing at Schweitzer in the winter, hiking, going for walks, being outside in the sun, listening to music, and hanging with friends! One thing about me is that I will always have music on like ALL the time. I love all types of music too, and you know one of my favorite things to do is go to concerts. I also love to bake, especially chocolate chip banana bread and cookies. Okay, now on to the pillar of Setons I am sharing about, Leadership!

Leadership is a super important pillar of our club because without any type of leadership, service and sisterhood would be difficult. All of us in the club are leaders in our own way which is such an awesome thing. We are able to be leaders at our monthly and weekly service opportunities. As leaders, we all can guide and support each other throughout our years at Gonzaga and especially sophomore year. Being a leader in the context of sisterhood and service involves using our skills, resources, and personalities to guide and support each other towards our club goals, while also prioritizing the needs of the larger Spokane community and working towards a greater good.
