Catherine Steiner - Service

Hello! My name is Catherine Steiner, I’m from Edmonds, Washington, and I am an English Major with a Concentration in Writing and a double minor in Digital Marketing and Entrepreneurial Leadership. I come from a big Zag family, three out of my four siblings went to Gonzaga so I’ve been going to Family Weekend and visiting campus since I was 7. A little fun fact is that my two older sisters were also in Setons, so I have had a love for this club since I was young! I am currently a part of the Setons Executive Board as this year's class President! As President I am responsible for leading all meetings, and ensure we continuously uphold our pillars of sisterhood, service and leadership. My favorite part about being in Setons has been meeting so many wonderful girls, and being more involved both on and off campus! Outside of Setons, I am a part of the Hogan Entrepreneurial Leadership program which has taught me so many communication, collaboration and leadership skills wh...

Georgia Riggs: Service

Hello, everyone! My name is Georgia Riggs and I am from Glendora, California, a city about 25 minutes from Pasadena and an hour from LA. Currently, I’m a psychology major with minors in digital marketing and leadership studies! I’ve loved getting to take a wide range of classes throughout my time here—for example, a ballet class Fall of freshman year and a class called Disability in Literature this fall semester. In addition to the fun classes I’ve had the chance to take, it’s been great to try a variety of clubs and organizations. I joined GUSR (Gonzaga University Specialized Recreation) last year and signed up again this year (sister shoutout to Ava and Avery, they’re in it too!) which has been so much fun and definitely my favorite club on campus. For a little bit more about me, I absolutely love having flowers in my dorm, I have my Hydro Flask in hand 24/7, and every Wednesday, you’ll catch me in Setons Gear (or posting about Setons…). It’s only been a few weeks, but I’ve loved every minute of Setons and am looking forward to more service and socials!

I chose to focus on our pillar of service this week because I have had the absolute best time at my weekly service, as well as our monthly service events! I serve with a wonderful couple of gals, Macy and Maddie, and we head out to the Hutton Settlement every Monday and get to tutor a group of kids as well as help out on the property. For example, last week we helped spread bark around their greenhouse, and the week before we helped with a donor dinner they hosted! Really anywhere they need us, we’re there! I personally love to work with kids, and the kids Macy and I work with are in middle school and high school, so they’re fun to talk to, will joke with you, and are incredibly good at Banana Grams. Everyone there has been very welcoming, so it’s a great environment. I’m stoked for the rest of the semester and having the chance to form better friendships with the kids at Hutton as well as Maddie and Macy. As for monthly service, our two events so far have been so fun and later this month we have the chance to put on some Halloween costumes and hand out candy to little ones. I think that everyone is beyond excited for this event! Service has always been something I loved doing, and my love for it has only grown from being in Setons!
