Mary Maidment: Service

Hi! My name is Mary Maidment and I am from Portland, Oregon. I am studying neuroscience with a minor in psychology on the pre-med track. On campus, I work as an events assistant and as an Ambassador, frequently giving tours. When I have free time, I love to be outside hiking, shopping, intramural sports, workout classes, and spending time with friends. This year, my team won our softball and volleyball intramural championships!! I have been busy watching the new Secret Lives of Mormon Wives season and just finished Scandal. What drew me to Setons was the Service pillar. Since I was young, my family has made an effort to be actively involved in different forms of service in our community. We spent time at our church, local food bank, community garden, and my favorite was making clothing bags for children in need. I loved picking outfits and giving toys, games, and other activities. Maggie Moffat- Service

Hello! My name is Maggie Moffat, and I am a business major with a minor in Spanish. I am from Auburn, WA.

One thing I absolutely love about being a Seton is all of the wonderful service we are a part of. This semester, I have had the opportunity to serve meals to Spokane’s homeless population at Blessings Under the Bridge. Every Wednesday night this organization provides dinner, groceries, pet food, shoes, and clothing to over 350 people. It is a lively atmosphere underneath the freeway, with music and smiling faces. Many of the stories shared at this weekly event are moving as well as heartbreaking. This weekly service truly has been one of the most eye-opening things I’ve been involved in, and words cannot describe the impact these people have had on me. Having the opportunity to get to know the individuals at Blessings Under the Bridge has definitely widened my perspective and allowed me to better know the Spokane community. I am incredibly grateful to be a part of Setons and to have these experiences!

In addition to our regular weekly service, we also choose a different area to serve at each month. For February, we were able to volunteer at an elementary Father-Daughter dance! Of the 30 of us helping, we filled different needs at the dance including the snack area, photos, coat check, and registration. It was such a fun night seeing the excited young girls in dresses, and dancing as we worked.
