Eleanor Johnson: Service

Hi! My name is Eleanor Johnson, and I am from Snohomish, Washington. I am majoring in Accounting and Business Administration with a concentration in Management Information Systems and have a minor in dance. Outside of class I work with Campus Kitchens, a program on campus that takes leftover food from campus dining to cook warm meals that are then served to Gonzaga Family Haven and O’Malley Senior Center. Along with Setons I am apart of Women in Business, Beta Alpha Psi, and the involved in the Gonzaga dance program. In my free time I like to read, get coffee, take workout classes, and watch Gilmore Girls.   I joined Girl Scouts in first grade and ever since, Service has been extremely important to me and something I strive to keep a part of my life. Growing up in Girl Scouts allowed me to recognize the importance of helping those in my community from an early age and has ultimately led me to be the person I am today. Service was the pillar that drove me to join Setons, and I’m so ...

Maggie Moffat- Service

Hello! My name is Maggie Moffat, and I am a business major with a minor in Spanish. I am from Auburn, WA.

One thing I absolutely love about being a Seton is all of the wonderful service we are a part of. This semester, I have had the opportunity to serve meals to Spokane’s homeless population at Blessings Under the Bridge. Every Wednesday night this organization provides dinner, groceries, pet food, shoes, and clothing to over 350 people. It is a lively atmosphere underneath the freeway, with music and smiling faces. Many of the stories shared at this weekly event are moving as well as heartbreaking. This weekly service truly has been one of the most eye-opening things I’ve been involved in, and words cannot describe the impact these people have had on me. Having the opportunity to get to know the individuals at Blessings Under the Bridge has definitely widened my perspective and allowed me to better know the Spokane community. I am incredibly grateful to be a part of Setons and to have these experiences!

In addition to our regular weekly service, we also choose a different area to serve at each month. For February, we were able to volunteer at an elementary Father-Daughter dance! Of the 30 of us helping, we filled different needs at the dance including the snack area, photos, coat check, and registration. It was such a fun night seeing the excited young girls in dresses, and dancing as we worked.
