Yuna Jang: Sisterhood

Hello! My name is Yuna and I am from Sacramento, California. A bit about my home life, I have a sister who currently attends Baylor University on track to become a doctor and I am currently studying nursing. My parents own their own sushi restaurant so I can confidently say sushi is my favorite food (and I know good sushi). Other than Setons, I am also involved in the Gonzaga Student Nurses Association here on campus as well as when I’m at home from school, I work at my local gym’s kid’s club because I love working with kids! Although nursing is pretty rigorous academically, in my spare time I live with 3 other roommates and we love to cook, watch movies, go on walks, and shop!  I chose the Seton pillar of sisterhood. This pillar is truly what drew me to Setons in the first place. As a 2nd semester freshman girl, I felt like I had met a lot of people but didn’t truly connect with any to call them a close friend. However, once I joined Setons, I got to truly and deeply connect with ...

Ellyse Kirkland- Service

Hi everyone! My name is Ellyse Kirkland and I am a political science and international relations major from Lake Tahoe, Nevada. I felt particularly compelled to write this week's blog post because I wanted to share the service that my weekly group of girls completes every Tuesday afternoon. Setons of Gonzaga is partnered with an incredibly special organization called Blessings Under The Bridge. Every Tuesday, seven of us are tasked with making food, stuffing envelopes and doing other jobs here & there to help out. Every Wednesday, Blessings Under The Bridge organizes the preparation of a full meal and lots of donations of clothing. My particular service day is in charge of making different aspects of the food that they serve on Wednesdays. Our first week, we cut up all the ingredients for decedent burgers. Two weeks ago, we made over 600 meatballs for meatball sandwiches. Not only am I gaining kitchen experience, it’s also incredibly rewarding to be able to make the food that a significant number of the Spokane homeless population is benefiting from. Last semester I was even able to participate on Wednesday to help serve and interact with some of the individuals. Service through Setons has been the most rewarding aspect of my college experience at Gonzaga thus far. I’m so grateful and thrilled to be apart of a community of girls that values service and outreach as much as I do.
