Yuna Jang: Sisterhood

Hello! My name is Yuna and I am from Sacramento, California. A bit about my home life, I have a sister who currently attends Baylor University on track to become a doctor and I am currently studying nursing. My parents own their own sushi restaurant so I can confidently say sushi is my favorite food (and I know good sushi). Other than Setons, I am also involved in the Gonzaga Student Nurses Association here on campus as well as when I’m at home from school, I work at my local gym’s kid’s club because I love working with kids! Although nursing is pretty rigorous academically, in my spare time I live with 3 other roommates and we love to cook, watch movies, go on walks, and shop!  I chose the Seton pillar of sisterhood. This pillar is truly what drew me to Setons in the first place. As a 2nd semester freshman girl, I felt like I had met a lot of people but didn’t truly connect with any to call them a close friend. However, once I joined Setons, I got to truly and deeply connect with ...

Katie Newman- Retreat

Hello!

My name is Katie Newman! I am one of the two Social Chairs for Setons this year and I was blessed to have been able plan a retreat at Ross Point with Brittany this semester. This retreat was so much greater than either one of us could have ever planned. This retreat included everything from smores to sleeping on the floor with 30 girls with one blanket each (we forgot to bring bedding, oops). Nonetheless, it brought me much closer to all of my sisters. Setons has brought so many amazing girls into my life and I did not truly realize how blessed I was until after this retreat. Each girl on setons brings so much joy and light into my life. From playing a big game of musical chairs to creating a dance with 4 other sisters, I have never smiled or laughed as hard as I did on that Friday night.
Our retreat was the weekend before Thanksgiving break and it could not have fallen on a more perfect weekend. It really got me in the spirit and made me think of how thankful I am. Setons has provided me so many opportunities to grow as a person, from weekly and monthly service, to having a leadership position, to random social events. Our weekly service consists of playing LEGOS on Tuesdays with people from the Arc! This weekly event has brought so much joy into my life. Making new connections with a population in need while getting closer to my 4 other sisters every week. Setons has provided me with the sanity that I need during this crazy year of school. I wouldn’t have been able to get through this semester without the girls on setons. I am SO sad that I only have one more semester seeing these amazing girls at weekly meetings and service!
