Sarah Grassel: Service

Hi everyone! My name is Sarah Grassel and I’m a Biology major with a Spanish minor. I’m from Corvallis, Oregon, and have lived my whole life in the Pacific Northwest. Because of this, I’ve developed a love of the outdoors, especially of hiking, biking, and paddle boarding (and also coffee of course). I love to go on walks, especially on the beach, and like to read, bake, play piano, swim, and spend time with friends and family. At Gonzaga, I’m involved in campus ministry and work as a tutor in math and chemistry, and, of course, I am a Seton. Coming to Gonzaga, I knew I wanted to find a community that valued service and connection. Service has always been an important part of my life. Through volunteering, I’ve gotten to meet so many people from different walks of life while working on various projects. I believe serving others is essential to living a flourishing life. It’s an act of love and humility, recognizing the gifts one has received and working for and with others in gratitude...

Nick Pullen: Artisans Reflection and Oktoberfest

This week we continued our service with Artisans and I already see the impact it is having on my mentee, Bud and me. I walked in to the Artisans building and I could tell my excitement to hang out was a mutual feeling between Bud and I. This is my first opportunity working with disabled adults, as most of my service has been with kids, and I am really enjoying it. The highlight of my time with Bud this week was seeing how he really cares for people. As we continued to talk and hangout throughout our time, he asked individually how each of my family members had been since I had last seen him and he genuinely cares how I am doing. This experience has been great so far and I’m excited to get even closer to Bud.

This was also a big week for the Knights as we had our Oksoberfest event. The event was a hit! Students from all classes came to enjoy the waterdie tournament and learn more about alcohol safety. It was great to see a lot of the Setons come and support the event too. One of the most exciting parts of the event is seeing the freshman that showed up who were already excited about the opportunity to be a part of the Knights and Setons organization. We are going to have a great class following us next year.
