Yuna Jang: Sisterhood

Hello! My name is Yuna and I am from Sacramento, California. A bit about my home life, I have a sister who currently attends Baylor University on track to become a doctor and I am currently studying nursing. My parents own their own sushi restaurant so I can confidently say sushi is my favorite food (and I know good sushi). Other than Setons, I am also involved in the Gonzaga Student Nurses Association here on campus as well as when I’m at home from school, I work at my local gym’s kid’s club because I love working with kids! Although nursing is pretty rigorous academically, in my spare time I live with 3 other roommates and we love to cook, watch movies, go on walks, and shop!  I chose the Seton pillar of sisterhood. This pillar is truly what drew me to Setons in the first place. As a 2nd semester freshman girl, I felt like I had met a lot of people but didn’t truly connect with any to call them a close friend. However, once I joined Setons, I got to truly and deeply connect with ...

Sofia Almy: Service

Hello! My name is Sofia Almy and I am from Bonney Lake, Washington. I am a Biology major here at Gonzaga, when I'm not studying I enjoy golfing, skiing, tennis, and hiking! I also love reading, and doing crafts like knitting and crochet. Although I'm usually not a huge TV watcher, I've recently watched the Martha Steward documentary and am now her biggest fan. I'm also an avid traveler (29 countries and counting). I have 2 younger brothers and two dogs! I am a part of the fly fishing club, and Delight Ministries here on campus! I am loving being a part of Setons this semester and am looking forward to our retreat coming up!

The pillar I am highlighting this week is service! This past semester I was placed at the Isaac Foundation which was the most fulfilling experience. I volunteered during clubhouse hours at the Isaac Foundation, which provides a space for 6th-12th grade students on the autism spectrum and with other special needs or intellectual disabilities to socialize, study, make friends, and explore new interests. Once I got to go on an adventure with some of the kids on the bus to visit a flatstick pub downtown to help them practice ordering at restaurants, crossing the street, and riding the bus! We also did smiles and frowns every week where we would go around the circle and talk about the best and worst parts of our week. I really enjoyed being able to connect with the kids and talk about their days. Overall I have loved volunteering at Isaac Foundation and although I am sad for my placement to be over I am excited to start my new placement for the semester at boys and girls club.
