Yuna Jang: Sisterhood

Hello! My name is Yuna and I am from Sacramento, California. A bit about my home life, I have a sister who currently attends Baylor University on track to become a doctor and I am currently studying nursing. My parents own their own sushi restaurant so I can confidently say sushi is my favorite food (and I know good sushi). Other than Setons, I am also involved in the Gonzaga Student Nurses Association here on campus as well as when I’m at home from school, I work at my local gym’s kid’s club because I love working with kids! Although nursing is pretty rigorous academically, in my spare time I live with 3 other roommates and we love to cook, watch movies, go on walks, and shop!  I chose the Seton pillar of sisterhood. This pillar is truly what drew me to Setons in the first place. As a 2nd semester freshman girl, I felt like I had met a lot of people but didn’t truly connect with any to call them a close friend. However, once I joined Setons, I got to truly and deeply connect with ...

Sarah Lalonde- Service

Hi! My name is Sarah Lalonde and like Serena I also volunteer at Blessings Under the Bridge. I am a part of the Tuesday service group and our job is prepping the meals that are passed out on Wednesday nights under the bridge to the homeless of Spokane or to anyone that is in need of a meal. I look forward to our Tuesday service every week. Going to Blessings is a nice break from stressful classes, and there’s just something about the combination of getting to hang out with the other Setons while making delicious meals together that makes for the best laughs and memories. Whether we’re unpackaging thousands of ready-made pancakes, using the can opener to open what seems like dozens of canned goods, or crying together while cutting onions, you can bet we’re singing along to some good tunes or talking about our ups and downs from the past week. Serving every week has given us the opportunity to focus on sisterhood as well as the service pillar of Setons. Working as a team and spending two hours a week together has caused us to bond and grow closer in a smaller group. In addition to developing our sisterhood, weekly service allows us to connect with the Spokane community, even if it is just behind-the-scenes preparation. I’m so grateful that being a part of the Setons of Gonzaga has given me the opportunity to give back to my community and to do it with such an amazing group of passionate and caring women. I’m excited to see what the rest of this year as a Seton has to offer and I’m sure it will be filled with more fulfilling service opportunities and bonding experiences with the other 29 girls!
