Valeria Lopez: Service

Hi sisters!
My name is Valeria Lopez, and I’m a Public Health and Political Science major from Sunnyside, Washington, which is in Central WA about 40 minutes from Yakima! In my free time, I love exploring new restaurants and café spots, snowboarding, and staying active; whether that’s lifting, yoga, or pilates. Fitness has become such an important part of keeping my mind and body healthy. I also recently picked up painting again, which has always been something I’ve loved since I was little, it’s super relaxing and helps me unwind after busy days. Outside of Setons, I serve as the On-Campus Senator for GSBA and sit on the Governance and Health & Safety Committees. I’m also a pre-nursing student at Spokane Community College, working toward myADN to become a public health nurse.

The pillar that resonates most with me is Service. Growing up in a mostly Hispanic community where many people only spoke Spanish, my parents always encouraged me to help others by translating or volunteering whenever I could. That’s where my passion for service really began. In high school, I completed over 300 hours of community service and even joined the Miss America Organization to continue giving back. When I came to Gonzaga, I knew I wanted to keep that part of myself alive; and joining Setons made that possible. Through Setons, I’ve met so many amazing women who inspire me to serve with purpose and heart. I’m so thankful for this sisterhood and for all the ways we get to make an impact together!
