Eleanor Johnson: Service

Hi! My name is Eleanor Johnson, and I am from Snohomish, Washington. I am majoring in Accounting and Business Administration with a concentration in Management Information Systems and have a minor in dance. Outside of class I work with Campus Kitchens, a program on campus that takes leftover food from campus dining to cook warm meals that are then served to Gonzaga Family Haven and O’Malley Senior Center. Along with Setons I am apart of Women in Business, Beta Alpha Psi, and the involved in the Gonzaga dance program. In my free time I like to read, get coffee, take workout classes, and watch Gilmore Girls.   I joined Girl Scouts in first grade and ever since, Service has been extremely important to me and something I strive to keep a part of my life. Growing up in Girl Scouts allowed me to recognize the importance of helping those in my community from an early age and has ultimately led me to be the person I am today. Service was the pillar that drove me to join Setons, and I’m so ...

Jacky Marr- ATTS

Hi Everyone! I am Jacky Marr and this year I have the honor of serving in a leadership role as President of Setons. Our organization’s motto is All Together Through Service, which I believe is the perfect phrase that embodies what we do. We would not be able to help the greater Spokane community without the strong relationships we make with one another.

A fun fact about me is that I actually transferred to GU at second semester last year. It was a wild ride coming to a new University halfway through the year, but the selections process for Setons showed me how many truly amazing females there are in my class. This year has proven that more than I could have imagined. Each member of Setons brings new perspectives, fun jokes, and loads of good ideas to the group. Our weekly meetings always end with great laughs and growing friendships.

One way that my friendships have grown is through service, one of the three pillars that Setons is built on. On Wednesday nights, I get the wonderful opportunity to serve with Blessings Under the Bridge, a nonprofit organization with a focus on aiding those experiencing homelessness in the Spokane area. Jessie Stenberg wrote a little bit about what we do on Wednesday service last week in her blog post, but I also want to share about a specific moment that had a large impact on my perspective. I was helping at the clothing table and one gentleman by the name of Christopher came up and started talking with me. He was extremely passionate about the importance of living in the now, telling those around us how important they are to us, and to consistently affirm those in our life. It was a powerful reminder to appreciate my place at Gonzaga and the amazing relationships that I have formed through Setons. As I look around at the individuals we interact with each Wednesday, it allows me to see that the people I was doing it with makes a difference. While the three pillars; sisterhood, service, and leadership, may seem separate, when intertwined they strengthen not only each individual, but also our organization as a whole.
