Eleanor Johnson: Service

Hi! My name is Eleanor Johnson, and I am from Snohomish, Washington. I am majoring in Accounting and Business Administration with a concentration in Management Information Systems and have a minor in dance. Outside of class I work with Campus Kitchens, a program on campus that takes leftover food from campus dining to cook warm meals that are then served to Gonzaga Family Haven and O’Malley Senior Center. Along with Setons I am apart of Women in Business, Beta Alpha Psi, and the involved in the Gonzaga dance program. In my free time I like to read, get coffee, take workout classes, and watch Gilmore Girls.   I joined Girl Scouts in first grade and ever since, Service has been extremely important to me and something I strive to keep a part of my life. Growing up in Girl Scouts allowed me to recognize the importance of helping those in my community from an early age and has ultimately led me to be the person I am today. Service was the pillar that drove me to join Setons, and I’m so ...

Isabelle Fleming: Service

Hello! I’m Isabelle Fleming, a nursing major from Maryland. My parents moved to a small farm last year so now my family has grown from just my parents, twin sister and I to include 9 chickens, 3 goats, and soon 2 sheep and a horse! I have always been active and when the weather’s nice here I love to run on Centennial Trail or play pickleball. I am grateful to be a part of the 23-24 Setons as watching each girl grow in her love of service and the Spokane community has been the best part of my sophomore year.

Service was a large part of my life in high school since we were required to complete 100 hrs every year. At the time I thought that was very unfair and an extremely high load to add on to the work of high school and playing a sport. However, it shaped me to consider service as a priority alongside my school work and wellness. Freshman year at Gonzaga, I wanted to continue being deeply involved in service, but I didn’t know where to start and often felt that I wasn’t truly connecting with or bettering Spokane. I knew I wanted to do something different my sophomore year and that’s a large part of why I applied to Setons. I’m happy to say that Setons has connected me with service opportunities that lift my spirits and give me purpose in my daily life. Forming personal relationships at each of my service placements reinforced the impact that service can have on not only the community, but also on myself, allowing me to learn more about myself and the kind of person I want to be. Service has also been a conduit for deeper connections with the other girls, as serving alongside each other is an incredible experience that demonstrates the importance of the shared values Setons instills in each of us.
