Laila Zommers: Sisterhood

Hello! My name is Laila Zommers and I’m from Seattle, WA. I’m double majoring in Accounting and Business Administration (with a Finance concentration). I am the oldest of 3, and my younger sister (17) and younger brother (15) are my best friends! Joining Setons this year has truly been one of the best decisions I have EVER made. Outside of Setons, I am an active member in the Gonzaga Women in Business club. I love to cook, go on runs, hang out with friends, shop, and explore the Spokane coffee scene.                                            Out of our three pillars, I have resonated the most with Sisterhood as it’s the backbone of everything we do in Setons. Leadership and service could not thrive the same without it. Finding a group of like-minded women has been super beneficial in my college experience and my growth into the young woman I am today. Bella Going- Leadership

Hi, I’m Bella Going and I’m a nursing major from Portland, OR. I’m grateful to be a Seton for many reasons. I’m so thankful for the opportunity to serve the greater Spokane community along with Blessings Under the Bridge. I also value the time I get to spend with the 29 other girls, who have become some of my closest friends. However, my leadership position has probably impacted my year the most.

Kaya and I are the service chairs this year. I was drawn to this position from the beginning because I wanted to make sure that our time volunteering was productive and fun. I had no idea how much I would grow as a person, nor how many important skills I would gain from this position. There have been days where the tasks at hand seemed impossible. Together Kaya and I had to figure out how to get our service events approved by the school and how to coordinate the schedules of 30 people. Being a service chair also means that I need to communicate clearly and frequently with my fellow Setons and the organizations we are serving. Kaya and I also had to figure out how to best support one another.

Although there are moments of frustration and stress, it’s so rewarding to see the difference we are making. All of the organizations we’ve worked with have expressed how grateful they are to have our help. Jess from Blessings Under the Bridge said that she was praying for help right before we reached out to her. The volunteer coordinator at another organization said she was so relieved to have our help cleaning that she could cry. Overall, I’ve learned so much from being one of the service chairs and I love being able to help connect our group of amazing women to organizations that rely on volunteers like us.
