Eleanor Johnson: Service

Hi! My name is Eleanor Johnson, and I am from Snohomish, Washington. I am majoring in Accounting and Business Administration with a concentration in Management Information Systems and have a minor in dance. Outside of class I work with Campus Kitchens, a program on campus that takes leftover food from campus dining to cook warm meals that are then served to Gonzaga Family Haven and O’Malley Senior Center. Along with Setons I am apart of Women in Business, Beta Alpha Psi, and the involved in the Gonzaga dance program. In my free time I like to read, get coffee, take workout classes, and watch Gilmore Girls.   I joined Girl Scouts in first grade and ever since, Service has been extremely important to me and something I strive to keep a part of my life. Growing up in Girl Scouts allowed me to recognize the importance of helping those in my community from an early age and has ultimately led me to be the person I am today. Service was the pillar that drove me to join Setons, and I’m so ...

Artisans Reflection: Nate Long

Meeting up with Buddy every Thursday for a few hours is always the highlight of my week. In my opinion, Bud and I are the perfect match for the mentor/mentee relationship. We both love sports, super heroes, and making money. The first thing he tells me when I see him each week is “I got paid this week, so I’m going to have my limo pretty soon.” We always talk about hopefully someday getting a limo and showing up to the Gonzaga basketball games in style.

Buddy’s everyday attitude has taught me a lot about how to look at life. He doesn’t let his daily problems or stresses affect his mood. He always shows up to Artisans with a great attitude and is continually pleasant to be around. Buddy’s also one of the most caring and kind individuals I’ve ever met. From the first time we met each other, he has put others before himself. He always asks how others are doing and how school is going. Buddy’s compassion towards others and love for life has taught me a lot and is something that I want to be able to implement in my own life. Buddy’s selfless ways and kindness truly know how to put a smile on my face each and every week I get to see him.

Bud and I have grown really close over this past year. We’ve done a ton of activities like going to the Chiefs hockey game, bowling, making tacos, and just relaxing and coloring pictures of his favorite NFL team, the Philadelphia Eagles. While Knights and Setons is coming to a close for the Class of 2017, I don’t want my relationship with Buddy to end. I’m going to continue to visit him next year and hopefully for as long as I possibly can. Buddy’s one of the greatest guys that I have ever met, and I want our friendship to keep on growing.
