Eleanor Johnson: Service

Hi! My name is Eleanor Johnson, and I am from Snohomish, Washington. I am majoring in Accounting and Business Administration with a concentration in Management Information Systems and have a minor in dance. Outside of class I work with Campus Kitchens, a program on campus that takes leftover food from campus dining to cook warm meals that are then served to Gonzaga Family Haven and O’Malley Senior Center. Along with Setons I am apart of Women in Business, Beta Alpha Psi, and the involved in the Gonzaga dance program. In my free time I like to read, get coffee, take workout classes, and watch Gilmore Girls.   I joined Girl Scouts in first grade and ever since, Service has been extremely important to me and something I strive to keep a part of my life. Growing up in Girl Scouts allowed me to recognize the importance of helping those in my community from an early age and has ultimately led me to be the person I am today. Service was the pillar that drove me to join Setons, and I’m so ...

Service Reflection: Cameron Falkenburg

This is the second week I've been able to volunteer at the Transitional Living Center. Both weeks have held a few small surprises and a variety of interactions that I wouldn't have expected to have.

The first week that I spent at TLC, I got to help a 2nd grader do his homework. Aiden had just had a hair cut was was rocking his Mohawk like a 90's rock star. Along with this do, he had a tape on mustache, very realistic and quite convincing if you ask me.

Aiden was going through the same second grade struggles that I went through, trying to learn how to spell... One of his words was fox. When we got to fox, Aiden looked up at me and said, "What does the fox say?" Me being the ignorant college student responded in a fluster. I really wasn't sure what to say. Aiden, without pause, breaks out into song, "Ring ding ding ding..." For those of you who haven't seen the video, just google "what does the fox say" and be astounded that someone thought that up.

This just goes to show that you can't be prepared for everything that gets thrown at you at TLC. Some times they are balls, other times crazy song lyrics. But it's always fun and always interesting.
